We all have really been enjoying Tekkit in the past week. It has become very popular and I had to remove our Tekkit forum post because the influx of users was just overwhelming, our server hit the player max on quite a few occasions and I even had to use a VIP Slot plugin just so our own staff could still log on.
But even with this topic removed from Tekkits forums we are still going to see the occasional griefer. So what can be done about it? Well unfortunately not a whole lot and here is why:
Tekkit is a giant hack. None of the mods included in Tekkit interface with Bukkit and our protection plugins all rely on the Bukkit API. Now why is this an important distinction? Well because when you use tools in Tekkit such as the super tools that destroy 3x3 blocks and so forth they do not alter the world through the official Bukkit Events API so plugins such as LogBlock, WorldGuard, Towny, Factions and so on simply do not know that the world has been modified and what they don't know about they can't stop or log.
Now a lot of new players have requested we install LWC which is a container protection plugin similar to Lockette and Deadbolt (The latter of which we currently use). Now the problem with these plugins is that again they aren't aware of all the containers included in Tekkit. They can protect basic chests but they can't protect the special chests that Tekkit includes or machines that Tekkit has. Players have told me that LWC does work on machines and special chests so I tested this myself this morning and unfortunately it doesn't even work on Tekkit v3.1.1 or v3.1.2 - And actually LWC seems to have been abandoned as it is now three versions of bukkit out of date and hasn't been updated since May 2012.
So the situation we are left with is a very undesirable one, we can't really protect anything because all the protection plugins don't work and even if you can protect your basic chests you can't protect the special Tekkit ones and there are a whole range of exploits that allow players to steal from protected chests anyway.
Again Tekkit is a giant hack. It is very doubtful it will ever fully support Bukkits Event API because many different people are developing the mods that are included in Tekkit and those people just have no incentive to work with Bukkit.
I hope this enlightens a few of you and that now you can understand the frustration we are having as staff trying to both run a popular server and keep all your constructions safe. On our Vanilla servers everything is protected and perfect and it's a shame that we can't deliver that same level of quality to our Tekkit server.
Thanks for reading.

As a precaution, users can hide chests in walls or under your floors so people cant get to them or know where they are, and patch up any and all holes so looters cannot teleport into your home. Thank you.

I remember Pri saying that if you wall in your house and privates the door it is considered griefing if anyone breaks in and steal stuff from un-protected Tekkit chests.

He means if you wall up all of your house, so there are no holes, then use private signs to lock the entrance, then it is considered griefing if anyone was to break into the house and steal from unprotected tekkit chests.

Yes bart. While it is considered griefing to break into a protected house, were not actually worried about people who stick to the rules.
The problem lies with those who have absolutely no intention of following rules. We're concerned about people who build a super tool, and then ransack other peoples work.
We then have no method of fixing this grief through plugins, so therefor regardless of wether its considered ok or not to get into someone's house and loot their chests, there will always be people who purposely ruin peoples work. For no other purpose only being a dick.
