Honestly if someone is just going to post what they find on YouTube then they shouldn't bother submitting an application.AdrianL11 wrote:T_Balla wrote:I think this would definitely give you Engineer, that is, if it were your original idea. I do not think this is worthy, but I don't assign ranks, hopefully one of the admins or moderators will make a decision on this topic.
I think its things like this that discourage people from even trying to apply for ranks.

Some people aren't as creative with redstone as other, or aren't as great at building. I don't think we should fault people for trying, submitting ranks to get perks to be up there with everyone else. Putting people down for following a how-to.

The point of applications is to show what you can do. Any griefer can follow a guide to rank up and get destructive tools. We want people to make stuff from their own imagination.

Re: Nuclear's Engineer application No.2
My opinion? It's minecraft 99% of builds have been done before and its been placed on youtube or the web somewhere when it comes to redstone in one way or another But I have seen a lot of players on this server take those builds and make them more compacted or change it in a way, Usually the new redstone builds come out when they release new redstone items to the game. What I do think is the Engineer rank should be removed cuz of this, because of this issue an replaced with another Rank.

Re: Nuclear's Engineer application No.2
It would be silly to remove the Engineer rank for this because there are forums and youtube dedicated to all kinds of building too, to follow your logic we should remove Architect and Artist too.
Engineer is a fine rank but you can't get it for building something of this scale anyway, Engineer is a very hard rank to get through redstone building and just putting some pistons on a button or loop won't do it. Engineer requires working games and other things of that level of complexity like Halls two player Tic Tac Toe game. That is like 20,000 blocks.

Re: Nuclear's Engineer application No.2
i dont have much to say on the matter, im no redstone genuis and im not even sure what im looking at when seeing Nukes Screenshots.
but i must say, to get a rank, something should be a bit more original, like Pri said, fully working games or something.

Re: Nuclear's Engineer application No.2
I would not remove or revoke one of those ranks because for example I like to build yet I dont like to do pixel art nor red stone work on large scale, however it is very nice to have a rank that is entirely dedicated to that and that way a player knows that he earned such a rank by deserving it.
Having that said, deserving the rank is something to keep in mind and with this thought I would like to point out scale. Engineers are on the same level as an architect and with that we would expect that their builds to be grand and awesome.
While building something from youtube might take effort it still takes away from the creativity part which is also to be considered in the applicant. Applicants should remember the 4 key scores that the raters of the apps are looking for. Creativeness, beauty, scale and execution.
For example let's say that you want to build a tree farm thats automatic, now while the concept is not original you may still model it after your own particular design or simply make it exponentially big, adding to your build points.
Just my two cents on this matter.

That wasn't my intention. No one is at fault here, just when someone has an application, it is subject to criticism and feedback. I wouldn't say I was harsh, or anything close, I just voiced my opinion on what I saw. Whoever applies should look at it as constructive criticism. I also agree with Psico, the builder should take into consideration the 4 things a rater grades. If anything, Nuclear shouldn't feel bad or discouraged, but be more open to our observations. After reading all of the feedback, he can use this as a learning moment.AdrianL11 wrote:Some people aren't as creative with redstone as other, or aren't as great at building. Re: Nuclear's Engineer application No.2
I'm sure you all know about the 4 different criterias needed for engineer. Specifically "Ambition & Scale" Scale in redstone is the bigger the project the more points you get and to be honest this tree farm is ridiculously small, the next thing is ambition, basically the more ambition you have to make something the greater it will be and therefore you get more points. Now this application is lacking both scale and ambition, the scale of it is really tiny in redstone terms as its really the redstone going to each piston and a button or a detector to detect if there is a free there. In ambition the concept is relatively simple even if it is copied from somewhere else. I personally would give you a 2 for scale and frankly you need at least a 5+ to even attempt to get engineer. If you really do want the engineer rank don't copy someone else's build and don't do it in survival, your best chances are to go into create there you have everything you need. Be original and you can't think of something newer even if its been done before change it round make it better.
