Introducing: Player Spotlight (Dagstaff)

Mon Oct 28, 2013 1:53 am

I would like to introduce new stuff for you: Player Spotlight! Whether you are a director, a builder or an user, as we see your potential, you've deserved to be thrown into the spotlight! This often appears every 2 weeks so within those days, so enjoy! Its purpose is to inspire players and aspiring builders to be inspired.
Remember, the interview does nothing against anyone!

First, we start spotlight from newbie-turned-Architect Dagstaff! He's known for his massive creation The Bridge, which was highly scored in his rank application. We are impressed at his massive building skills.

Who are you? When did you join RenMX?
- Dagstaff. I started playing on RenMX in late August this year

What do you enjoy the most in our server?
- High overall server quality, server rarely down, map is constant, player ranks, ingenuity is recognized, mods are reasonable and fair.

What types of creations do you like to create?
- Medium/Large-scale open-style buildings that could exist in a world with gravity but are just beyond the realm of normal architecture. Combining multiple influences in to a coherent structure with a theme.

How do you plan before you create?
- Survey the landscape, search similar builds for ideas, bounce ideas off line_of_eld, build prototypes, gather materials

Do you have any tips for us to craft better creations?
- Sure. I think great builds meld with the landscape. I love that MC generates worlds. Its the other side of the equation that player creativity intertwines with to make something unique every time. I would say, utilize the existing landscape more, not morph it in to something else.

Any projects we look forward to?
- My vision for my existing build is not yet fulfilled... some things that you haven't seen yet: high-end restaurant and merchant harbor. After that, I don't know yet!

If you're going to implement a feature for RenMX, what would it be?
- I think the existing rank system is great. I would change it myself. It feels kind of hollowed out: the middle ranks like architect and city planner are not very populated (for good reasons), but the highest rank LC is already full and there are dozens of apprentices and lower. Some of this is simply a by-product of what players build, or don't build. I also think players don't get incentivized with intermediate ranks so they feel like they are making progress. I do not think director is not on par with architect in terms of time commitment from the player.

What's your feedback about our community?
- Its a solid, active community with a lot of talent and dedication. I am impressed at the drive of players to constantly build something better. Overall player maturity is fairly good (mostly rare on MC servers). Sometimes the player chat devolves in to nonsense, but without dictator mods this is inevitable most times.
I'm SUPPORTER and was the first Asian and youngest staff member at age 13.

Honestly I took the time yesterday to pass by Dag's place and I was left very impressed. I loved the design and execution of it all

Very nice Dag! If you haven't seen the wooden bridge that Dag has started building since his application, you should check it out, it's amazing.

Very cool idea Freakboy.
