New terrain generation

Mon Jul 22, 2013 2:58 pm

Today we have expanded the maps radius on our Survival Server by another 2,000 blocks. This takes it from a radius of 9,000 to 11,000.

With this change we have installed a plugin which changes the way terrain generates. The reason we have done this is because it adds more interesting terrain. Snow-topped mountains, deep redwood forests, more interesting deserts and other formations like island cliffs that are being eroded by the sea.

We have not pre-rendered the new radius yet because it is quite intensive and we don't want to lag the server but you are free to go to the map edges and uncover new areas on your own. We will be pre-rendering the new areas when the server is quiet.

Thanks and happy crafting.

Did the rollback revert this expansion? The border (as visible on the dynmap) is only 9500 blocks...
Yes, this was a completely unnecessary post. Deal with it.

It did yes. But I am not going to expand it again until we are on the new SSD tomorrow.
