Middle Earth Project on Flatlands!

Sun Jan 22, 2012 2:39 am

Hello! I am here to announce a major project that has just begun on the Flatlands: Middle Earth! And we want you! Clickable Map: http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Locations Another Map: http://blog.lefigaro.fr/hightech/middle-earth-map.jpg

Dum, Ryan, Iran, Cupa, and I are taking up leadership of the project, but we need more good and dedicated builders to make it all come together. The following is a list of major and minor areas which will need to be built. If you are interested, please read the descriptions carefully. This is a professional build, so please know that you will not be able to complete an area in one day. You will need to be diligent in order to include all of the aspects and details of your area. Remember, since this is on the Flatlands, all of the terrain and vegetation will also need to be made by you.

Zoning is ready! Terraforming is not complete, so if you have a build close to a river or mountains, either terraform it yourself or know that the area will change.

If you are interested, please make a forum post in this thread to let me know 1) which area(s) off of the list you want to build, 2) your rank on the server, and 3) your personal knowledge of Lord of the Rings. If your post does not contain ALL of this information, I will ignore it. I will get back to you as quickly as possible and tell you how to proceed. I will also remove posts as I go so that this thread stays a bit more manageable for me. Dum, Ryan, Iran, Cupa, and I will get first choice.

Major Builds

Grey Havens at the Gulf of Lhun - OPEN
This includes the gulf, the grey havens, the last ship to leave Middle Earth, the blue mountains, and terraforming of a coastline.
The Shire - zeoone544
This includes Hobbiton (keep in mind focal buildings such as Bag End, The Green Dragon Pub, etc), the Old Forest, and Bree.
Lothlorien in the forest of Lorien - iRandomness
Please be sure to include networking paths in and among large trees, and include the small river that leads to the Anduin, as well as the Anduin itself
Rivendell - BrainFried
Please be sure to include the location of the formation of the Fellowship of the Ring, as well as the shards of Narcil.
Rohan - delicatedahlias
Includes the rolling hills surrounding, Edoras the capitol, and the kingdom itself.
Minas Tirith -Ryanm16
This city should be very large and detailed. Please include the white tree of the king.
Osgiliath - PandaOwnage
This city will be a ruin, but please create the city and then "ruin" it afterward to make it look more convincing.
Minas Morgol- cupagreent
Please include the fortress as well as the Witch King of Angmar (Lord of the Nazgul) on his nazgul steed in the air.
Mount Doom - OPEN
This should be enormous and well detailed.
Barad-dur and the Black Gate- OPEN
Please take care to make both as animated and menacing as possible
Mordor (not including Mount Doom, Barad-dur, or the Gate) - OPEN
There will need to be tons of pits, forges, orc camps, etc. strewn all within Mordor. Please also include the Sea of Nurnen
Isengard - dumskalle123
This will be before Saruman burns all of the trees
Moria- skoch26
Should include the gate, the halls, the mines, the bridge of Khazad-dum and the Balrog

Minor Builds

Weather Hills and Weathertop - freakboy31

This includes the hills, the ruin, and some kind of evidence of Frodo's stabbing.
Fangorn Forest - OPEN
This includes a very well done forest with Treebeard and perhaps other ents hidden within.
Argonath on the Anduin - OPEN
The statues of the two kings should be enormous, and the kings should not look exactly alike.
Helms Deep - Ryanm16
This includes the fortress itself and the mountains surrounding it.
Halls of the Dead- BrainFried
Path to the halls and a ghostly city within the mountain
Beacons- OPEN
Lit beacons and beacon houses along the course from Edoras to Minas Tirith
Mirkwood Forest - cupagreent
Please also include several large eagles flying over the forest
Cirith Ungol and the stairs - delicatedahlias
Inlude the stairs, passages, and Shelob
Dead Marshes - Open
Please make this as detailed as possible
Erebor, the Lonely Mountain - dumskalle123
Should be dangerous and snowy
Sea of Rhun and Iron Hills - OPEN
These are not central to the plot of LOTR, but should be included none-the-less

Other areas may be added in the future. I will update the list as locations are taken.

PLEASE read about your area and view pictures on Google before you begin. Here is an excellent place to start:

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Sat Jan 28, 2012 7:57 pm

Hey! So, there have been a few shifts in who is doing what in terms of marking the map, thus things are taking a bit longer than we thought. Please note: We are aiming to be done marking the map and have warps ready for you to start building by Friday February 3rd. Please do not bother any of us about it until then. If you have a small project that can be easily copy-pasted, you may work on that on the regular Flatland. If you have a major build you will just need to wait until we are ready. If we are ready sooner than that, I will let you know.

There are still many open positions. You may take one major project and one minor project. As manager, I reserve the right to tell you if you may or may not do a particular project. I will not assign you to a project unless you make a forum post here. No asking me in-game. I am trying to stay organized. If I steer you away from a certain project, please do not be offended. I have to do what's best for the project as a whole. It isn't personal and I will help you to find a project that will work well for you. There will be no discussion after I've made a final decision, so please do not beg or harass me. Projects will also need to be reassigned if work isn't going well.

The list as it now stands is the current list.

Thanks to iRandomness and Cupagreent for all of their hard work as we tackle the difficult task of laying down the map.

I think I'm almost done with Weathertop, the only things that are required are the hills and the ruin.

Update

Sun Jan 29, 2012 11:57 pm

The Anduin, Ash Mountains, and most of the western coastline have all been laid out. However, please note that the terraforming is nowhere near complete. Warps have been added for the following locations: Bay of Lhun, Minas Tirith, Osgiliath, Minas Morgul, Mordor, Mount Doom, Black Gate, Dead Marshes, Barad-dur, and Fangorn.

To warp, type in the place name with no capitals or spaces. Example: Minas Morgul = minasmorgul

More help laying down the map would be great.

I would work on one of these but i would require lots of voxel and world edit first, so i need to get arch first.
