What exactly is WinMX?

It's a P2P program with chat. It's like a mix of Bittorrent and IRC in one program, but very old. The last release was in 2005.

I have always seen Tixati as being closest to WinMX. It is a torrent program but also supports chat and looked almost identical to WinMX in the beginning. Strange how Fopnu was supposed to be the new WinMX client, but hasn't been updated since 2005, the same year WinMX was taken offline.
