A note on why your /homes have dissapeared

Unfortunately with todays upgrade to Bukkit 1.4.5 we have found that our old home plugin has ceased to function and the developer behind it isn't updating it.

The result of this is that your multiple sethomes are locked in his custom database format. I have tried to access your sethomes so I can write something to convert them for use with Essentials another plugin we can use for these features. Unfortunately I am unable to do that because his custom database is foreign to me and I have no way to get the data out.

So once again we have been bitten by a developer abandoning their plugin but I can tell you one thing I have learned from this in the past when it happened with our warp plugin and our teleporting plugins. We switched to Essentials and at that time I was able to write a program to transfer our warps to the Essentials warp file format.

So although this is really frustrating right now I can assure you that this will not happen again as the Essentials plugin is very well maintained and open source. Thousands of servers rely on it and it is updated very quickly every new Bukkit release. Its development has changed hands a few times and it is still maintained to this day.

We now rely on Essentials for the following features:
  • All warping
  • All Teleporting
  • All Menus (like /help)
  • All /home related commands
  • Player listing (/who)
  • Custom Nicknames (/nick <name>)
  • All mail related commands
  • Clear inventory command (/clearinventory)
  • The /me self-text commands
  • All text/user prefix's & formats
I will be migrating more and more features over to Essentials as time goes on because simply put it is reliable and always updated. It is in-fact one of the first plugins to get updated every time Bukkit releases a new update and our dependence on these less than stellar plugin authors has only come back to bite us time and time again.

So to conclude, very sorry about the loss of your sethomes, I too have lost some things I built underground and I'm not really sure where I built them now but I hope everyone can understand the predicament and accept my apology.

Pri Ive been meaning to ask, will the capability of setting 5 homes be back? If that's the case then people can just walk (or generally fly since most are arch up) back to their old place.
