Servers NOT closed Permanently (Updated)

It's true the servers are back online. I'd like to explain why.

Firstly I want to say that this wasn't a joke or troll. I had every intention of shutting down the servers forever and I have infact taken the SSD's out of the server and already put one of those in my laptop. I also erased all the configs. As far as I was concerned it was done. Period.

But over the past 24 hours I have received a lot of private messages on the forum from players past and present who are all overwhelmed with sadness and a lot of you have shared with me that you have been crying and feeling depressed about the shuttering of the servers. I have to admit I have felt a great sadness too but your messages especially got to me deep down in my ice heart and made me feel incredibly sad and horrible for having taken away the game from you when you were still enjoying it. It made me feel very selfish.

I understand a few of you will be angry that I have made you feel sad having removed the servers and now done a 180 and put them back online again. That is valid and I can only apologize. I also understand many of you will feel like not playing on the servers again both for this turnaround and also uncertainty about the servers future, will I change my mind again and shut it down? that kind of thing. To those of you again I can only apologize and I hope you will continue to play or just hang out on the IRC.

I'm going to make a commitment to keep the servers online for the next 12 months. I will not change my mind. I'm also going to be adding a lot of new staff in the coming days. The configs for the server have been retrieved from one of the rigorous backups I kept which backed up the server in its entirety every 24 hours which means none of your data, towns and what-not have been lost. I will keep both the server maps available to for download indefinitely so you are free to take your constructions and leave if you so desire. Remember my dropbox account has been suspended for the next 3 days due to high bandwidth use so you may need to wait for the links to work again.

I want to say thank you to everyone who sent me kind words and spoke from your heart about the server. It was you that made me change my mind and decide to put the servers back online. And again I'm sorry to everyone for this situation I've caused.

Yes I will be adding more staff. Also I have delisted the creative server from spouts server browser meaning there should be a lot less griefing on the creative server.

I've also just ordered a brand new SSD for the server (since I took one of the old ones out) so the game servers may be a little laggy but when the new SSD comes I will plop it straight in and move the game servers on to it. It should be here on Tuesday.

Dude. I was about to get on and finally express my regret because I was pretty speechless, and now I'm speechless again! Believe me I know how life changing and stressful a kid can be, especially a newborn - having a person so completely dependent on you is an amazing responsibility. (Happy Father's Day btw) Server upkeep is a responsibility as well and I don't think anyone could have faulted you for needing to realign your resources.

I am ecstatic over your change of heart. There really is no other server like this one, though it's hard sometimes to put a finger on it the community is the rather obvious answer. Your commitment is really special, and very appreciated.

Well, there goes my Nobel prize winning research. Gotta get back to building.....
