Hey Guys I was hoping to catch some opinions on this topic. I want to make a new computer thats relatively cheap. I dont really want it for something very stressful just enough so that normal people can operate it and watch movies and stream media no prob. Wanted to know if it was best to make something new or simply buying a standard comp. What do you think?

Make something new, it will always be cheaper/better.

Depends on your budget. If you're going mid to high end building is better but if you're going low-end it's best to buy a pre-made.

i am doing the same thing, gutting my old one for parts but buying some new bits and bobs, where would you guys recommend purchasing from? ebay amazon??

I use four sites for computer parts and I buy from whichever is cheapest.

amazon.co.uk <- Large selection, cheap, hassle free returns.
scan.co.uk <- Hassle free returns (They pick it up at their cost with their courier)
ebuyer.com <- Great for free delivery
aria.co.uk <- Great for RAM

It's not so much the budget as much as it is the suppliers, also I'll keep those sites in mind... although ill need to find the US version of .co.uk hehe

Those were just for Skeleton, only Amazon out of those is worth using in USA. I doubt the other sites will even deliver to you as they are based in the UK. You should be looking at NCIX, Newegg etc

I use that site all the time, the owner is a redditor he posts regularly in /r/buildapc

I built my computer solely on Newegg.com... It always seems that the parts are cheaper on newegg even compared to the manufacturer...
